Frequently Asked Questions
What is HexQuiz?
A quiz game for iOS and Android built around ten different question formats. As well as multiple choice it asks you to sort, group, match, assign and estimate, across seven fields of knowledge, 174 categories and five difficulty levels.
When is it released?
It is in development. No date has been announced.
Which platforms will it run on?
iOS and Android. There is no desktop version planned.
Which languages does it support?
German and English.
What does it cost?
Nothing. The whole library is free and funded by ads, which earn keys that open the clue system. An optional subscription removes the ads, makes keys unlimited and adds statistics. See free to play.
How many questions are there?
630 in every one of the 174 categories — 109,620 in the full library, spread across all ten formats and all five difficulties.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account, no login and no cloud profile. Your name, your picture and your record of played rounds stay on your device.
How does scoring work?
Each question starts at 1,000 points and loses one per second — 100 seconds on a multiple-choice question, 200 on the interactive boards. Clues come out of that same total, so help is paid for with the score you are playing for.
Each question type is scored by its own rules. Multiple choice is simply right or wrong. The boards that hold many items award partial credit, and how that credit is worked out depends on what the board asks: a sort is scored on how near each item is to its correct position, a grouping on how many items sit in the right group, an assignment on how many pairings are correct, and an estimation on how close your pin lands to the true value rather than whether it hits it exactly. Getting most of a board right is therefore worth most of its points. Each question type page sets out its own rule.
Can I choose what a round contains?
Yes, in detail. Beyond picking the mode, the category and the difficulty, Quiz Training includes a fully customised quiz: you can combine several categories, choose which question formats appear, and filter by the tags carried on every individual question — among them historical period, geographic region, knowledge depth, cognitive skill, content style and answer type. See game modes.
Is there multiplayer?
Yes — ranked asynchronous matches and live matches against friends, alongside a Daily Challenge with a worldwide scoreboard and a Hot Streak.
Is the hexagonal grid a game board?
No — there is no territory to capture and no map to cross. The honeycomb is the interface itself: menus, the question, the answers, the clue cards, the timer and the score are all hexagons that turn and flip as you play.
Does it track me?
There are no accounts and nothing personal is uploaded. The game keeps anonymous, aggregated figures on how hard individual questions turn out to be in practice, used to re-level them; these carry no identifier, no timestamp and no session.
