Game Modes

Six ways to play, all drawing on the same library of 174 categories and the same clue system. What changes is how a session is shaped and what you are playing for.

HexQuiz Ladder

The mode the game is named after. Five rounds of seven questions, climbing from Beginner to Genius. Clear half the points available in a round and the next rung opens; fall short and the run ends there. Your score is the sum of the rounds you cleared.

The upper rounds are not simply more of the same. By the fourth rung the questions assume a specialist, and clues become the instrument you climb with rather than a convenience — which is why how you spend points matters as much as what you know.

Trophy Modes

Seven questions on one category you choose, at one difficulty you choose, for a medal. Medals are kept per category and per difficulty and never go down: a worse attempt later cannot take back what you won.

This is also how the game opens up. A difficulty in a category becomes available once that same category holds a medal one level below. The gate is per category, so a gold in Motorsport unlocks nothing in Philosophy — you earn depth where you have shown it.

Daily Challenge

One fresh quiz every day, the same questions for every player, with a worldwide scoreboard to measure yourself against. A Hot Streak counts the consecutive days you have played, so the mode rewards turning up as well as scoring well. It is the one place where your result is compared with everyone else's rather than with your own history.

Online Multiplayer

Two shapes, for two ways of being busy. Ranked asynchronous matches, where each side answers when it suits them and the result resolves once both have finished; and live matches against friends, played at the same time on the same questions.

Quiz Training

One question at a time, with nothing gated — every difficulty is open from the start. It is how you learn a board you have not played before, or drill the one that keeps costing you a round.

Training is also where the fully customised quiz lives. Rather than taking the game's selection, you compose a round yourself: pick and combine categories, choose which question formats appear, and filter by the tags carried on every individual question — among them historical period, geographic region, knowledge depth, cognitive skill, content style and answer type. A round of nothing but twentieth-century estimation questions about Europe is a thing you can build.

After release

More modes follow after launch, alongside more question formats and more categories. The library and the ways to play it grow together.
